Crossroads and Manatee Pocket Dredging, Update January 26, 2010
Crossroads A 12" Ellicott 670 cutter head dredge was launched today at Hinckley Yacht Services and dredging is scheduled to start tomorrow. Dredging will initiate back in the Intracoastal south of the inlet. While dredging that area a second crew will be submerging pipeline for the Okeechobee Waterway section. The anticipated completion date is not later than February 19th. Many thanks to Darryl Schmiermund, General Manager for Hinckley, for his individual efforts in getting the Project back on track
Manatee Pocket Dickerson Construction is in final stages of pipeline set up and will be deploying equipment from Hinckley and Sandsprit Park as early as end of this week. The actual start date has not been announced but it appears to be imminent. The Plan is to remove 280,000 cubic yards and install a 10’ deep navigation channel running the entire length of the Pocket, with additional dredging of the tributaries which, here-to-fore, have been principle sources to the sediment buildup in the Pocket over the past decades. Completion is scheduled for the 1st – 2nd quarter of 2011.
