THE WEB INLET CAMERA HAS MALFUNCTIONED AND IS CURRENTLY INOPERABLE. WORK IS IN PROGRESS TO REPAIR
Dredging the Crossroads and the Manatee Pocket, October 24, 2009 The Army Corps of Engineers has awarded the Crossroads Dredge Contract and the construction start is planned for last this month, early November. Completion is scheduled for December. December. The Plan is to remove 66,550 cubic yards from the sector and restore navigation depths to 8+ feet. With the recently completed north jetty improvements and installation of inlet navigation aids, traversing the Inlet area should be vastly improved from days of yore.
Martin County has awarded the Manatee Pocket Dredge Contract to Dickerson Florida, Inc. The planned construction start of September has been delayed, pending requests from FL DEP for additional sampling and testing. Hopefully, the start will be within the next month to six weeks, with completion expected 15 months later. The Plan is to remove 280,000 cubic yards and install a 10’ deep navigation channel running the entire length of the Pocket, with additional dredging of the tributaries which, here-to-fore, have been principle sources to the sediment buildup in the Pocket over the past decades.
